In Romanian beliefs, the red egg is a defender against the Devil. Red eggs, kept inside the house defended against evil.

The red egg is good because it protects the household from evil-charms. Old ladies offer the red egg to women for them to bury it in the yard, or in the house, behind the door.

To protect the fruits from hail, in spring, vintners tie the wineyard with willow reveice on Palm Sunday or they bury a red egg from Good Friday.
