Narrative inquiry examines human lives through the lens of a narrative, honoring lived experience as a source of important knowledge and understanding. In this concise volume, D. Jean Clandinin, one of the pioneers in using narrative as research, updates her classic formulation on narrative inquiry (with F. Michael Connelly), clarifying, extending and refining the method based on an additional decade of work. A valuable feature is the inclusion of several exemplary cases with the author's critique and analysis of the work. The rise of interest in narrative inquiry in recent years makes this is an essential guide for researchers and an excellent text for graduate courses in qualitative inquiry. About the Author: D. Jean Clandinin is Professor and Director of the Centre for Research for Teacher Education and Development at the University of Alberta. A former teacher, counselor, and psychologist, she is author or co-author of 10 books. She is past Vice President of Division B (Curriculum Studies) of the American Educational Research Association and is the 1993 winner of AERA's Early Career Award, 1999 winner of the Canadian Education Association Whitworth Award for educational research, 2001 winner of the Kaplan Research Achievement Award, and a 2004 Killam Scholar. She is also winner of the 2008 Larry Beauchamp Award from the University of Alberta, and the 2009 Killam Mentoring Award and the 2010 winner of the Graduate Teaching Award at the University of Alberta. She was awarded AERA's Division B Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002.
