Wilmer is a native Long Islander, raised in Manhasset, NY, who in 1976 decided to pursue his improbable dream of turning his avocation of writing poetry into a livelihood by forming his own publishing company with his wife, Sydney, a former teacher. Residing and working in Huntington, NY, until 2003, when the two of them relocated their company to an 11, 000 square foot facility in North Carolina, he has continued to pursue his writer's dream and has broadened his creative perspective living in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Starting out with a pair of obsolete Chandler-Price letter presses, which the two bought at auction in 1976, they published Bruce's poem about their newborn baby and sold it in hospitals and gift shops in personalized form.
