Poetele si poetii inclusi in acest voluminos tom sunt reprezentativi pentru libertinismul englez „intelectual”. Ei au fost introdusi in ordine cronologica ceea ce poate ajuta cititorul sa urmareasca traseul urmat de poezia libertina, incluzand vocabularul, dar si stilul poetic. Ce au in comun acesti poeti, avand in vedere ca unii sunt dramaturgi, dar au scris si versuri, altii au excelat in limbaj obscen iar altii au fost poeti ceva mai temperati, este tocmai respingerea normelor morale si placerea pentru ceea ce pot oferi simturile. Aceste aspecte nu apartin doar versurilor lor. Ei insisi au fost oameni de lume, intelectuali, dar au savurat viata si femeia, atitudine care se regaseste in versurile lor.
