Many have been taken from sermon notes, or the translation of such notes or literature that he published in China during the 1920s, 30s and 1940s. It was extensive, with over 63 books available in English translation of his teachings. Watchman Nee refused to soften or water down his Gospel message and teaching. He was finally imprisoned for his faith by Communist authorities in China in 1952. Four years later, he was brought to trial in Shanghai in 1956 where he was accused of various charges, including sabotage and spying (which he denied). He was sentenced to prison for 15 years, where he remained until his death in 1972.
