Description J. A. "Joe" Duckett was a common man in an important time of U. S. history, being one of the myriad of settlers who moved to the comparatively unpopulated West during the years following the Civil War. Though not a great leader or famous personage, he was well-known enough to have been mentioned in scores of sources and by many different people during and after his life in the West. This, then, is his story, which may stand as a tribute to all of the other "unknown" pioneers of the American West.
