Description MUSIC THEORY BASICS FOR GUITARISTS: Derived from charts and lessons developed for hundreds of students over ten years, this book on music theory is a compilation of the practical musical concepts most important to guitar players. This book fills a void left by other music theory books, which subject the reader to topics that aren't used in the playing of popular music on guitar. This book, for instance, takes the non-music-reading approach, since most guitar players will never have to know how to read standard notation. The layout of the book progresses from information on notes (arranged into scales), two notes (intervals), and three or more notes (chords). Major and minor keys are discussed, as well as chord progressions, and all the information needed to help hear and play music by ear. About the author Morgan Henry is a full time private guitar instructor of eleven years in northern Virginia. Having played guitar and bass in paying bands since 1966, he brings a practical approach to learning music theory. Over the years he has also "run sound" for bands, played on numerous recordings and has been a recording engineer in studios including his own. He has a BA from the University of Virginia with a 'minor' in music with concentrations in theory and instrumentation. When not teaching guitar and bass, Mr. Henry repairs and modifies guitars, operates a digital recording studio on-site, and of course, still plays guitar and bass in local bands.
