While most people have heard the term cyber security and understand the impact it can have on them, such as identity theft, most people have no idea how to deal with the problem. Today, people have an incorrect view of cyber security; therefore, attempts at implementing security are ill fated and typically fail. The world is not flat, which today is obvious. However, there was a time when this was believed to be true and it impacted how people approached life. Once it was discovered that the world was round, it changed people's lives dramatically. Many individuals are still under the impression that they can prevent cyber-attacks and that cyber-attacks are something that happens to other people. The reality of cyber space is that everyone will have a security breach. The focus needs to be on containing and controlling the damage. Breaches are going to happen and they are not necessarily a bad thing. Many people view the problem incorrectly and spend a lot of non-productive energy fixing the wrong problem. It is the reason why the damage caused by breaches is increasing. No one approaches life saying they will never get sick. Everyone knows they will get sick. Much like cyber security, with the focus on minimizing the frequency that it occurs and the impact it has on our life, the damage caused by breaches can decrease.
